You really should try to think things from the perspective of the basic iranian, not whoever happens to lead them.
Why? In the context of international relations, in what way is the opinions of the basic Iranian at all relevent to this issue?

Does that mean Israel will have to stop killing Palestinians and stealing their land?

              It doesn't threaten the USA.
Well, Israel will blackmail the US into attacking Iran and then people are going to want to kill your troops and crash planes into your buildings. Moreso than they're doing already, that is.

I try to keep up with a variety of sources. I wish I could do more. Al-Jazeera is actually on my "Favorites" list. Just because I think a lot of what they think is crap is no reason not to read them.

Unlike a lot of conservatives, my opinions don't come from what "Daddy" or "Preacher" says. In fact, I think that in a lot of ways the liberals have it right...if it were a perfect world. Since it isn't, then real world events require me to think through real world solutions. One of the great things about Poly is that there are many people who do this and come to different conclusions...and the debate makes us all better.

That's great, now do you realize that Ahmadinejad controls neither of the army and foreign policy ?

                            We already had that discussion.

The fact is that the grand leader did not suddenly stop, and say "hey, forget what he said, we don't mind Israel at all". Nothing of this was denied or criticized (if only as "tactically improper").

Ahmadinejad has enough of a power base, both on nuclear issues and in the national security council, to promote policy.

Sure, he does not have the final say. But his words certainly go with the general flow of Iran's campaign of hatred of Israel and Jews.

So the point whether he personally can launch a rocket is pointless.

You have Iranian leaders and intelligence agencies involved in arming, training and funding Hebullah, Islamic Jihad, and lately Hamas.

This is not a country that is peaceful to Israel.

Yeah...Did you notice that he was quoting Khomeini? But thanks for playing!

"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map," said Ahmadinejad, referring to Iran's revolutionary leader Ayat Allah Khomeini.

Khomeiny has said that a long time ago, in a partisan rally.

You have to distinguish populist bull**** and pragmatic realism.

Iran would never nuke, that's freaking obvious.

As for supporting guerillas, the solution is a negociated peace with the Palestinians. Israel withdraws to the 67 borders and they've got a deal.

The truth is that America can't, for obvious reasons, recognize a regime that suppressed one of its allies (the Chah). And they can't let Iraq turn into a pro-Iranian state.

In both cases, they're receiving the quarters from their dollar of imperialism.
