Buddhists are attention whores. Who else lights themselves on fire.

You don't need your pinky fingers either, pinky toes too. And since you're becoming a monk, there's another organ that you don't need.

It is good to see that more men now renounce the wickedness of old and convert to Origin.

            Remember Blake:

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

Attention is just what it is, it can be used or misused.

Please reprimand everyone who paid attention to me when I first started my experiments in AI. If it wasn't for them, I'd never have persevered and Better AI would never have come into existence. If not for that success, I wouldn't have had the self-confidence to expand "changing a corner of the gaming world" into "changing a corner of the world".

You know who are to blame for me being an attention whore, now go blame them!

A very important and central question in Buddhism, asked on issues such as this are:
"Who does it harm? If the answer is no-one, it is okay"

Someone may not need something, but if taking it away from them would harm them, it is not Buddhist kosher to do so. That question can put almost anything into perspective.

                        Oh, and to Blake:

Glad you've taken this step! I did some reporting on a Cambodian Buddhist monastery here in the States, and in the summer they would occasionally get some interest from lay citizens who wanted to try out the lifestyle of prayer and meditation that their monks observed.

One boy was an American youth of 14 and he shaved his head and his eyebrows and took up the saffron robes. He went through the two-week training program, and then he returned to the secular world again. He thought about returning to do more study but could not commit to becoming ordained just yet. The monks were fine with that.

Do whatever you need to find a purpose with your life. And if you actually do find it, be sure to let the rest of us know.

I doubt that. (At the Nazi mama remark.)

But it harms me having to see your picture like that.

Anyway, I believe that since people were put on this Earth with hair to remove it like that is simply a form a vanity.
