I've seen that response a lot from yanks and I can't explain why other than pure ignorance. French works very well with rap and the French hip hop scene is generally excellent.

Oh definitely. IMO French language sounds the best in hip hop. It's a matter of taste but to me it sounds really good.
If you really think about it, they've got some of the best to offer in most fields I'm interested in. They've got good hip hop, good electronic music, they've got lots of culture (not the people, the country!), nice cuisine, great movies (La Haine, Dobermann, Irreversible: The Cassel trilogy!), great philosophers (Foucault Sartre, Althusser, Deleuze, Derrida, just from the top of my head )... they've got most nice stuff man. They even have some OK porno. And beaches too.
They just suck at peoples and also military but they still have FFL, so it compensates a bit.
They're just too frenchie but there's some good stuff in there.

Forget about the faster harder more crap. THis is the album that truly kicks ass, it kicked ass when it came out and it STILL kicks ass. One of them albums that every track is just awesome.

I mean damn it. Irreversible is one of the greatest movies ever. It's perhaps one of the strongest ever, while being the most disgusting, while being the most beautiful at the same time. It makes you sick, it makes you sad, it makes you think. It's not for everyone, but for those who it is for, it's simply a golden find. Truly powerful. Truly great. I'm drunk.
