Well, last week I did the light week. I did 1+1 hr of very high rep very low weight workout in addition to 1+1+.5 hours of cardio.

This week I started my heavy lifting. Yesterday was cardio, today I did 4 exercises (+ abs, but a lot less abs than normal).

First was squats, it had has been 6 months since I was lifting high weight squats (3-4x15 of 340 lbs) so this time I started at 200 lbs and did sets of 5 moving up by 20 lbs most times (a few times I forgot to move up). I got to 340 lbs (which I did a couple of sets of) before I stopped. This was using the squats machine (pulley machine), I saw the area for squats in the gym, and might try using barbell next time... I would want to start at 200 lbs again? (or less?)

Next I did incline press (using a machine again, so I didn't have to find a spotter, this machine wasn't a pulley machine though but one where you put weights on an arm and then push on the arm, it is the machine I used last month). I did less sets (Still doing only 5 most times) but got up to 170 lbs (I ignore the extra it says to add because of the arm) before I started having to decrease weight. I Think the 170 lbs is the highest I have done on incline.

Next, I found a similar arm type machine (I did some lower weight things on a pulley one first) that was for deadlifts... I didn't do more then 6 sets on this but tried to keep to what I think it proper form. I was only doing 90 lbs, but when I went to do abs I found that my back was tired.

Finally, I went back to chest (similar type machine, but decline). I didn't get as high as I did last month here (I was tired, got to 200 lbs last month) but still got to 180 lbs before dropping down.

I finished up with abs... as noted, my back was tired so I did a lot less than usual. I will have to really focus on abs on my light weeks and do fewer on my heavy weeks.

Comments? My goal I think will be 5 sets of 5 reps of 2x exercises for squats/deadlifts and 3x exercises of chest (total of 7 exercises, probably would be 1 hr total time or close to it). One thing though is that my biceps were hardly worked at all, should I do biceps on Wednesday (and maybe triceps?)? I don't plan to do the 3xheavy core exercises again until Friday.

I swear, I am beginning to think that exercise machines are worthless... I really wish I had a workout partner.

Anyways, after my warmup, I went to my standard squat machine. I wasn't feeling very strong in my left leg, so only went up to 380 lbs (my goal was 400 lbs) but I did two exercises of it. Next I did my standard machine decline press, I got up to 220 (230?) lbs (This is an iso-laternal decline press). Next I did the deadlift machine thing I did before, I started at 90 and finished up at 110 lbs. I hope I am doing it right, my back always feels the workout after it.

Then I had seen people using a bar in a cage that slides on two poles. This seems to be closer to a standard barbell, so I decided to wait and use it for my incline press. (I did some with just the standard barbell as I waited). I found the bar for this machine to be quite heavy, similar to the standard barbell, and was doing a lot less weight on this machine than I could do on the other (iso-etc) machine. I think I only got up to 90 lbs + bar for the incline, and afterwards did squats with it and only got up to 130 lbs + bar. My final exercise with it was a standard benchpress, which I finished on 90 lbs + bar (maybe 120 lbs + bar?). All the exercises with it were pretty difficult. Is this similar to how a barbell would be? Or do I need to just find someone to spot me at some point.

I ended the night with lat pulldowns + abs (low amount of abs). I tried to do LS's wide pullups but couldn't do one.

I think that I want to get far away from using the machines. Is the bar-on-poles machine close enough to the real thing for me to be able to do real exercises after using it?
