I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Ah, leavenworth is not too far from the airport then (that's give or take where 435 runs into 29). That airport is very confusing to get out of and onto 35, so I know the area well (because of going the wrong way on various highways where the turns are not well marked)

In the US, everything West of the Appalachians is based on a grid. The result of widespread knowledge and use of surveying techniques, especially post-revolution.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Yeah, advanced surveying and grids are dull. This is what a proper settlement looks like:

Almost everything but not everything. California and New Mexico retained some of the Spanish layouts.

The property is about 300 feet wide and 1200 feet long, and extends out to the second tree line in the above picture.
