And typified her and the whole of white America as doing the same with no proof. That's applying a racial bias, assuming a behavior due to race only. Classic racism.

      "Typical White Person"

Rather an inflammatory turn of phrase, wouldn't you say?

Can you imagine the firestorm if Shrub or McCain or Clinton said "Typical Black Person"...?

Exactly. If McCain said something involving the words "typical" and "black", there'd be a ****storm.

Since when is there a typical white, black, green or orange person. Who gets to define such a being?

What is a typical white person, Zkrib? What about a typical black person, or asian person?

As I said above, a typical white person is not overtly racists but harbors some racist feeling. They are middle of the road...average...what one usually finds under close inspection...not extraordinary.

You're confusing typical, normal, etcetera, with stereotyping.

Interesting. Anything else you wish to proclaim about the typical.

Also Obama exemplified dear ole gran as doing more than what you describe above, but moreover voicing overt and disgusting comments behind closed doors. Far from quietly harboring racist feelings. Especially considering child rearing considerations and the need for setting the example.

In that context it pretty much spells typical americans as racist scum just waiting to have the chance to spout their filth, ehh?

I don't think he's racist (I mean he wouldn't make racist policies), but he should have chosen different words.

He probably meant typical white person, controlled for age. To take a random metric for racism - acceptance of interracial marriage (from Gallup):

According to a recent Gallup Poll, 77% of Americans say they approve of marriages between blacks and whites. This includes the vast majority of whites and blacks, but blacks are much more likely than whites to approve of interracial marriages. Public support for black-white marriage has been building steadily since 1958, and reached the current plateau near the 75% mark in 2003.

So 14% of white people over the age of 18 do not approve (either disapprove or are undecided) of interracial marriage and 36% of white people over 50 do not approve of interracial marriage. Assuming that Obama's grandmother is 85 (just under 40 years older than he is), a linear projection would say that ~60% of white people over 85 would disapprove of interracial marriage. ~50% is a reasonable definition of typical. Now, what Obama was talking about is a far cry from telling a stranger that they disapprove of interracial marriage - rather, it's the occasional derogatory term in private, etc.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me, although the choice of words could be a ****load better.

Edit: 14% referred to 18-49. It's actually 25% for over 18, making the final result 48% for over 85. And as I was saying, it's reasonable to assume that the percentage for making racially derogatory remarks in private is much higher. Still reasonable, if impolitic.

Of course, this sort of **** is why honestly talking about race is probably a bad idea.

And the hits just keep coming:

From the Wright-written eulogy for scholar Asa Hilliard in the Dec. 2007 edition of the Trumpet magazine: "(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him... The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans."

After calling Jesus's crucifixion "a public lynching Italian style" executed in "Apartheid Rome," he goes on to claim that white supremicists run the U.S. government:

"The government runs everything from the White House to the schoolhouse, from the Capitol to the Klan, white supremacy is clearly in charge, but Asa, like Jesus, refused to be defined by an oppressive government because Asa got his identity from an Omnipotent God."
