Looks like both Lehman Brothers and National City Bank are going into the drink.
I work under contract to one of the above right now, and **** is hitting the fan internally. There's basically a work stop. More layoffs coming ("reductions").

Dude, that sucks.
I wonder if it's possible to survive as a going concern after a day in which you lose half of your market value (as in the case of National City).
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It's alright for me, if this bank goes under I'll switch to one of many other projects. There's a couple of really cool ones here I'd like to jump on but I'm all tied up with this client...one's a disaster planning and management application using the MS Surface, with one such request for the middle east (that'll be a huge growing market!).

I'm not crying for Bear Stearns employees (at least those who I don't know). They benefited handsomely when times were good.

Don't put words in my mouth. Many of the Bear Stearns folks got bonuses worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I'm supposed to shed a tear for them?
F that. I've got nothing against them, and am not going to kick them when they're down, but to describe them as "the little guy" is just absurd.

But shed a tear for the secretaries, messengers, and office clerks, who never saw a 5-figure bonus and now will never see a pension.
You have no idea how they're set up for retirement.
