  • If two Repug Senators could survive it, Spitzer ought to be able to do so.

Maybe 150 years ago, I would be on the other side of the law. Tough to know.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. There is also the clear violation of the law (prostitution is more frowned upon in the public that perjury over an affair), and the hypocrisy - the prosecution of prostitution rings.

I don't think Spitzer can survive. If he tries to hang on, the NY Republicans will try to impeach him and they'll probably win, IMO. Especially the transport over state lines is a potential felony, IIRC.

        • ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — With pressure mounting to resign Tuesday over a call-girl scandal, Gov. Eliot Spitzer found himself with few friends and lots of powerful enemies, many of whom regard him as a sanctimonious bully who got what was coming to him.

Republicans began talking impeachment, and few if any fellow Democrats were willing to defend him. A death watch of sorts began at the state Capitol, where whispers of “What have you heard?†echoed through nearly every hallway of the ornate, 109-year-old building.

While Spitzer and his family remained secluded in their Fifth Avenue apartment, insiders said the governor was still trying to decide how to proceed. Options included quitting as early as Tuesday afternoon, or waiting to use resignation as a bargaining chip with federal prosecutors to avoid indictment.

Democrats privately floated another option, telling The Associated Press that Spitzer was considering what was almost unthinkable immediately after Monday’s bombshell apology: hanging on.

Sometimes you worry me, Dan, whats tough about it? Well, aside from showing the flaw with your society of laws argument, that one's a no-brainer. If you did choose the other side (my side), does that mean you dont believe in a society of laws? Btw, the Constitution is the law of the land, not "society"...

            • The constitution is the law of the land. But so are many other laws. And regulations.

I am trying to put myself in that situation, as I've been asked by you to do.

Let's say I were pro life, and believed that abortion was murder. Would I, as a law man, arrest a pro lifer who had threatened an abortionist?

              • So what if he was hiring whores???

Perhaps he is married to a biatch, and needs the thing.

It's not dumb as much as it is arrogance. Spitzer has always thought of himself as beyond the reach of the filthy commoners. As for his survival it is widely speculated/believed he is simply staying in office as a bargaining chip in plea dealings. He's toast.

                  • He should have just banged one of his employees.
That way, he could finish his term, and ultimately his wife could run.

Given how much the whores he was using charged, that isn't so shocking. What you should be asking is if any public monies were used to subsidize his effing around on his wife.
