    People still say "supper"?

In Quebec, most ppl call the 3 meals:
      dejeuner, diner, souper.

Once you learn that dejeuner is breakfast, it's natural to translate the others as dinner and supper, until you learn that, for most North Americans, the equivalent would be lunch and dinner, respectively.

          "elevensies"

I use supper and dinner interchangably. I blame the francophone influence on my culture for this anomoly.

Columbus, Ohio got 20 inches+ of snow yesterday!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

My family used "supper" to refer to the family's evening meal and "dinner" to refer to something more formal, e.g. "Thankgiving dinner."

Next time, maybe try 'Atonement'. When i saw the advert for it on TV, I thought "Some kind of chick flick."

I haven't seen it yet. (Can anyone here comment on it's suitability for encouraging friskiness?) But it got all kinds of BAFTA and Golden Globe awards. And it's got Keira Knightly in it.

This is the extended trailer for the upcoming film ATONEMENT. Starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, and Romola Garai.

Dinner is the largest(/most formal) meal of the day. Currently for most people it is supper. However, previously (and still, for some people) it is lunch.

It can never be breakfast, even if that is the largest meal of the day.
