  • New round of NATO expansion.

As some of you may know next month NATO will be considering whither to admit Croatia, Albania, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). Anyone have predictions on which countries will be invited to join? I personally see Croatia as a sure thing and Albania almost assuredly a no go with Macedonia a big question mark. On merits Macedonia should qualify but like every other member Greece holds a veto on expansions and the Greeks seem determined to block Macedonia due to the FYROM/Macedonia name disagreement. Unless a compromise is worked out then it is likely Greece will use its veto.

Anyone want to make advanced predictions about who will get in and who will be left cooling their heels?

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Albania has no chance, and I honeslty don't see Macedonia making it either.

Threre really isn't that much more room for expansion. Morocco maybe?

What about Georgia? I heared their last election was also about who wants to lead the Country to a nato-membership. And most Georgians would want to join

So as this could complicate relations with russia, is that likly to ever happen, or is it just a pipe dream of the georgians?

I believe Bosnia, Ukraine, and Moldova also want to be members though they're not in line for the current expansion list. Ukraine is the only worth letting join but they're just to big, to unstable, and it would piss off the Russians to much.

Why let in new members when we can't even get some of the old members to fill their obligations and support the mission of the organization?

The latter sounds like a good reason to let them in immediately
