Then there's the problem. Any yokel can muck with another party cost free.

Registering to vote should be free (why do you have to state a party preference to register?) but if you want to join a political party there should be a fee and only paid members determine leadership.

Get working on it would ya.

No cost to register. As for non-party members voting in a party primary, there havebeen and quite likely still are areas of the country where the primary serves as the general election to the other party having little or no chance of winning there. So why should they be denied a voice?

Denied a voice? How does my proposal deny you a voice?

There are people in this country that vote for whatever party their entire life but never take out a party membership.

Looks to me like a solution searching for a problem.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. If you don't think Texas Republicans voting on who should lead the Democrats in the general election isn't a problem then I agree.

I have actually seen quite a number of people on the internet say they are republicans, have no intention of voting for a democrat in the general election, but voted for Hillary in the primaries in ohio or texas.

The problem that you identify is theoretical at best. In any event, this is the system that was instituted by the parties. It would be crocodile tears for them to complain at this point.

I don't care who instituted the damn system, it's got a problem. The people should care regardless if The Parties do.

The delegate math's basically unchanged. Between WY (the 7th), MS (the 11th), and yesterday, Obama's bound to net delegates. Remember the caucus results still are not in, 'specially from urban counties, and they're going for Obama (FWIW, on election day my Houston precinct went for Obama by 4% in the primary and by 40% in the caucus).

Clinton still has to win the remaining states by huge margins. This is even more true than it was yesterday. Her path to the nomination was winning both states by 20%; that obviously didn't happen.

There's going to be a lot of public pressure on Clinton to accept that reality. Superdelegates will continue endorsing Obama, and we're going to see parity soon enough.

There may be more talk of FL and MI holding re-votes, which would be a good thing IMO.

That's why the entire system sucks.
A real democracy would let all these candidates run for president during the real elections, then the top-candidates during those candidates move on to a 2nd round where the majority vote wins.

A poll to vote who can be voted on in the next poll is just silly and stupid and weird and silly (did I repeat myself?)

Fortunately for us, for many, many reasons, we don't live in a real democracy (and neither does anyone else on this planet, as far as I know)

The open primary was instituted to better reflect the reality of loose party affiliation. You can be sure that the Dems welcome the votes, no matter the voters' intent.

To be honest, even if you consider it a problem, there are much more important everday things to worry about. Like the weather. Or the next bottle of beer.

Face it, any way these goes down it will be a brokered convention. Which is exactly what the right wingers were aiming for.

To be fair it was mostly likely going to be a long fight to the finish followed by a brokered convention anyway though the one chance was if Hillary lost yesterday and decided to bow out gracefully. Fat chance of that even if she had lost though.

That only happened in the first few races. It was effectively a two-candidate race after January.

But I do think there should be a national primary with runoffs.

I like it. It forces the candidates to put together a credible campaign and to appeal to the party regulars on their issues. Differences are teased out in this process. Suitability is judged over a long time.
