    I would expect a bit of a differential due to the auto vs manual divide.
    You shouldn't generally actually use your gears as brakes in the sense of coming to a quick stop, though it's certainly fine to downshift in order to drop some speed off. However, you absolutely should never coast with your gears disengaged on a hill, as your gears do provide a very important safety role in keeping you from going out of control (the braking function).

      I find that bringing the TV for a walk defeats the purpose of the walking?
      I mean and you can't pay attention to the TV because you have to watch out for hazards like when crossing roads.
