    • No, he's trying to get beat up on the playground.

Seriously, you are claiming character based on a haircut. I've asked you to prove this obvious "fact" of yours several times but you won't/can't. Where is your proof a mohawk means the kid doesn't want to learn?

I'm just telling you what every educator knows. There's no proof because it's not always true.

But you still aren't getting the point, that allowing students to draw attention to themselves for other that academic reasons distracts them and others from education. Stereotyping doesn't matter. All that matters is the education.

            • You guys still seem to be arguing that if schools didn't have dress codes that education would not be negatively affected. That's pretty absurd, but you expect me to show some proof for my claims that you are wrong.

But making the reasonable acknoledgement that dress codes do improve academic performance, students freedom to look however they want, which you also seem to be very concerned about, is not a significant concern to most reasonable people so much as the schools ability to educate students is. Indeed, failing school is a horrible tragedy for just one child.

It's all part of the inherited racial memories in America. They see a mohawk and think "that kid's going to bury a flint-knapped hatchet in my back if I turn around, or possibly smoke me to death over a slow fire while they dance around it hollering". Makes PTA meetings very stressful.

I didn't know the verb "holler". So at least this thread has some educational effect.

So distraction is your issue? Make up your damn mind Kid.

If the kid with a mohawk has a different haircut he will still be the same kid. If all we needed to make schools better places of education was to institute dress/haircut codes we would have done so long ago. Putting all the children in slacks and collars is not the solution.

Why don't you get one and then show it too us on a regular basis? We ought to get more than our fill of mohawks that way.

                            • Sometimes women can have mohawk hairstyles too.

                              ...

Just, those are not usually visible on a day to day basis
