My neighbors don't get my sense of humor. I think it's some sort of inter-Atlantic disconnect. I invited them round for tea and then caught a mouse and threw it into an empty trash can, then peed into the trash can so the mouse was swimming around helplessly in waste water for a while, then I poured a cup of bleach into it so the mouse was breathing concentrated gaseous hydrochloric acid for a while before its lung tissues degraded and it died.

At this point my American neighbors looked at each other and said "Oh, so tea is an actual evening meal in England then???"

Funny you should say that. Obviously that little post was a humorous fabrication, but there was one time in Beijing when I got drunk on my birthday and went streaking through the hutongs with three guys. (Those of you who remember me before I returned to these boards in 2007 may be familiar with this story. Hell, it's probably in the archives somewhere.) It was also the Fifth Party Plenum, so the armed guards were out in force with an unspoken curfew for all local Chinese. Only heaven knows what they thought at seeing three foreign dudes and a foreign girl running naked through the streets.

At one point the French embassy press dude stopped in a courtyard to empty his bladder, and my then-boyfriend joined him in watering the wall. This turned into a height-peeing contest between them and then the third guy, the German embassy dude, joined them as well.

This next bit I don't remember too well but all three of them swear that it happened and their testimony all corroborates. They said I started laughing at my boyfriend for his pee height, saying I could do better. They all fell about laughing, but then apparently I did a handstand against the wall and whizzed. I wasn't paying much attention but apparently the German guy did an upclose inspection and I had, in fact, won.

The evening ended when the French guy found a load of covered bird cages in the courtyard (Chinese seniors, especially the old men, like to raise birds as a pastime) and was delighted because he loves birds. He gave them whistle chirps and birdsong, as well as introducing - in his infinite kindness - his uncircumcized "lower perch" into their cages for them to hop around on.

Che, that is an excellent question. I've been considering how this country works socially for years. There are alot of women like Loni or Vivian in this country. They could have a filipino husband very quickly if they chose to. They however choose not to. As I said earlier, if you go out on a date here you have a chapperone. Not all women do though, and there are some like Lindy's wife, the American guy pictured earlier, that go out and get pregnant and live in poverty with their kids because the guy that they lay down with has no money and no chance of making any, but maybe he's very cute to her so she meets him one night and makes a baby niether of them can afford. The rest of the women go to school on this, see the poverty and hardship that results and cross themselves and go out on dates with chapperones, and look not fot the cute guys, but for the guys who can be good providers and that's what counts here. There are of course filipino men that have good jobs and wives and children. Still, there's lots and lots of both filipino men and women who are stuck single. Lets say I find Joe Schmo, a guy flipping burgers in the US and he saves his money and comes over here to find a gal. Well here his income is that of a doctor or lawyer. He gets married, the gal goes to the US and gets a job and the two of them get a place and things start rolling in both their lives where before not much is happening in either.

The filipino guys that aren't professional get what jobs they can and have drinks when they can and swim and fish and live their lives as best they can. I had a filipino guy here tell me that he can't find a woman, that nobody wants him. I felt for the guy, a very nice fellow maybe 45 years old. However he will never be able to provide for a woman. If he could there are plenty of women out there for him. On the flip side, maybe a woman who has children without being married would consider him, but he doesn't want such. You look at the pic of Lindy earlier in this thread. He's in his 70s, we found him a gal in her 40s who has kids and where there was no chance for either now they have something. It isn't perfect, but there you go. They have love and hope and those kids are eating.

Also, for some reason beyond me, there's a hell of alot of gay filipino men. Maybe its related...but I doubt it. Alot of the gay men are fairly well off, could have a wife but prefer men. Funny world.

It's just ****ed up in a different way than ours. I prefer this place, the people are wonderful. There are almost no aggressive people here, these people love peace.
