You're welcome. Grooving to Night Flight now, I keep thinking that intro is out of tune. It could be my poor speakers, but my best guess is everything was just more trippy back then.
A Wikipedia look-up revealed it's about somebody trying to get out of military service, I didn't pay enough attention to the lyrics. Also it seems there's a Jeff Buckley cover out there, I might check that out.
Not sure it fits your requirements, but when I think of flying songs, "Danger Zone", the theme to Top Gun, is always the first one to pop into my head.
The Ataris, "Takeoffs And Landings"
(from So Long, Astoria)
On this coldest of January nights
We drive out past the runway and watch the planes go flying by
The runway lights are the deepest blue like the colors of your eyes
So close them tight and kiss me one last time
If you could go anywhere right now
Where would you go?
And would you miss me when you get there?
There's no place that I would rather be
Please don't let me go falling from the sky
The "fasten seatbelt" sign just needs to go out
If only you could be right here by my side
Home wouldn't seem so far from here
Passport, customs, carry on, remember
To shut off all of your electronic devices
Fell asleep on Tuesday woke up Monday afternoon
I slept right through your International Date Line
If you could go anywhere right now
Where would you go?
And would you miss me when you get there?
There's no place that I would rather be
Please don't let me go falling from the sky
The "fasten seatbelt" sign just needs to go out
If only you could be right here by my side
Home wouldn't seem so far from here
Please don't let me go falling from the sky
The "fasten seatbelt" sign just needs to go out
If only you could be right here by my side
Home wouldn't seem so far from here
Love that song...

I thought I'd drop you a PM, but then I thought this thread would eventually catch you anyway. Thanks.
Just to further test that impressive music knowledge of yours, what if I were to specifically ask for a song about being stuck in O'Hare because United Airlines screwed me over again?

A Chicago Blues would be quite apposite... I also would favour Alberta Hunter:
I Got A Mind To Ramble
or if you decide on alternative transport to a different airport, her 'Amtrak Blues'.
Howzabout:
Howlin' Wolf: Moanin' At Midnight
Junior Wells: Early In The Morning
Closer to our safe European home:
The Animals: We Gotta Get Outta This Place
consider a voyage next time:
Roxy Music : Sea Breezes
Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.
...patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone. Edith Cavell, 1915
If you take the lyrics metaphorically, I suppose Jimi Hendrix's "Angel" could fit... Filter's "Take a Picture" refers to a real-life incident on an airplane, but that's tangential at best and it's a pretty weak song anyhow... Paul McCartney's "Jet" has virtually nothing to do with actual jets (let alone the OP's specific theme) with the exception of one line...
Bah, all the good ones have already been mentioned.
