Seriously though, invasion of Venezuela is a joke. The US has no control over it. The Imperial might of the US isn't what it used to be. End of story. Pakroklos can now safely cry himself to sleep at night.

Did I call for the invasion of Venezuela?

Oh, that must have been my alter ego in the Kidiverse, the one you can actually win arguements against in you head

Oh come on. Everyone knows how it works. Let's say I mount a military coup and take over an oil producing country. I then allow in oil companies on the cheap as long as they pay me backhanders. The citizens of my country, who own the drilling rights to the oil (if anyone does) get nothing, except perhaps sick from the pollution which I'm looking the other way about.

That's how these ****s do business. Ask the Nigerians or any number of of other people who have been ****ed over by corrupt oil company practices. Venezuela before Chavez was just such an oligarchy. No reasonable person denies this.
Mounting a military coup... Venezuela... why does Hugo come to mind?

There is a whole lotta assertion here, but no facts. Is there a way of comparing the deal Exxon got in Venezuela against a deal in some other country? I'm perfectly willing to accept that Exxon *may* have gotten a sweetheart deal from the corrupt pre-Chavez regime. I'm not going to assume it, however.

I rather suspect that any profit any oil company (correction: Western Oil Company) makes is awful in your eyes. Speaking of which...

Perhaps we should hold Exxon accountable for funding bull**** climate change science and setting back progress on combating climate change for years. It's quite likely that these delays will end up costing hundreds of thousands if not millions of human lives. Yet this will now likely happen because Exxon needs to make a buck.
Clearly, this is why Chavez tried to take their money. Of course, Chavez's nationalized oil company won't harm the environment. Nu-uh, no sir.

You are talking about a company here that has still not paid the fine for the 10 million gallons of crude one of its ships dumped into the Alaskan wilderness nearly 20 years ago. They have absolutely no shame.
Ugh. They have appealed the judgment several times, keep losing, and keep appealing. They're going to run out of appeals, and they're going to pay... eventually. But I agree, it's not good behavior.

IIRC I seem to remember them hanging around Iraq in recent times, like the vultures they are.
          No war for oil!

These people are criminals of the first order. The executives of Exxon deserve nothing less than to be dragged from their beds and shot. They know exactly what they are doing, and they simply don't give a ****.
          Always a good solution

Keep in mind the government he launched a coup against had massacred 3,000 demonstrators.

In any event, Oerdin misreads the article. Exxon-Mobile convinced a judge that Venezuela might try and move their assets beyond the reach of the court, so the judge ordered they be frozen. EM hasn't won its case yet.

I was struck by that too. DD, whatever his faults, has no silver spoon.

Not to worry, Che, my tounge was firmly planted in my cheek on that one.

As for the rest - heh, helps to read the article, eh?

Actually part of the reason its been taking so long is that I haven't been taking loans. Just been taking classes as I could afford to pay cash for them which has usually been one or 2 at a time.

Yea, he just has this weird desire for Exxon to have another Billion dollars for some reason. I'll never figure that out.

Exxon has done their share of raping. So not only do I not care. I'm glad they got theirs finally.
