  • U.S. I.D. card -- Is it time?

Ron Paul brought this up in a debate a couple of weeks ago.

Paul's point is that, if we want a tamper-proof card that people will have to produce in order to get employment, wouldn't these cards have to be distributed: (a) to all aliens; (b) tp everyone who looks as if they might be an alien; and (c) to everyone else. And if so, haven't we created an de-facto national identity card? (Everyone else on the dias looked very nervous and changed the subject.)

Considering the illegal alien problem, the fake social security papers, and the massive amount of I.D. theft, it's it time we jettisoned our age-old abhorence to a national I.D. card and embraced the inevitable?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

I like the idea of using the drivers license as the defacto ID card except that states can be so horribly sloppy about verifying ID when issuing the license.

It would be nice to consolidate all the various ID cards into one ID card. The problem is if you call it an ID card people start having seizures. Lets just call it an iPaSS.

Drivers' licenses are issued by states, not the national govt.

Drivers' licenses are issued to drivers, not to everyone.

Drivers' licenses are not proof of citizenship.

Why not just put barcodes on back of peoples heads and implant chips? Would save decades of BS.
if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''

when has that approach ever worked? opponents never use a proper name anyway, instead they just throw out euphemisms of their own.

                iPaSS

I don't see much difference between a driver's license and an ID card, except the latter seems more efficient.

Maintenance would be a *****. We'd have to raze a good portion of it so it wouldn't flip back.

You can't flip to a civ that's been eliminated.

So? The feds like using teh Highway fund as a club. Just have them use that to push a common set of standards.

Not in my experience. I actually saw "Not useable for Driving" stenciled across one when I was a cashier. Anyone can get them as an ID card.
