      Tony wants to be the President of the EU, even though he's got a fortune lined up for him in plush private sector consultancy roles. He will have to forfeit these if he is to become Fuhrer.

        Interestingly, though perhaps not surprisingly, nowhere does the article feature the words "elected" or "democracy".

        EU = 4th Reich

          Why do we expect our leaders to be a human version of the care-bears? In light of human history, this makes no sense at all.

            Who said anything about care-bears? I was talking about democracy, and before that I was making an observation about money v power, and not a value-judgememnt.

                    I don't care who is at the helm of the EU, even if it is such a lowlife like Blair. Disband it and be done with it. EU

                      The president of the European council of ministers is a post created under the Lisbon treaty. The president will be the permanent chair of the council of ministers, Europe's chief decision-making body.
                      some might remember this better as the european constitution, rejected by french and dutch voters in 2005. now after a few words have been changed, it is being forced through with the utter contempt for democracy that we've come to expect from the EU.

                        Yeah, but power and money are both his favourite things. After that comes family and that kind of sh*t.

                            How is the President chosen?

                            Does the EU have enough power to make this into a big deal?

                              I bet the President of the EU can't even make a commemorative postage stamp without the approval of a committee, agreement of all heads of state, and a general election.
