            I don't believe all degrees are created equal. What was yours, English?
            One was History, the other Political Science. Makes sense for me, I want to be a history professor eventually. I start my MBA next fall.

            I am sure you consider all three of those useless, but fortunately the people who pay salaries don't.

            Well, it depends what you want. Virtually any person with a degree can be some kind of supervisor at a McDonalds, grocery store, etc...

                And you know this how?

                I have done both (in fact, at the MEPS I was managing enlisted and civilians at the same time), and in my experience there's more similarities than differences.

                  I never said universally.

                  In any case nearly everyone I know in the civilian world my age (26) is just now getting supervisory responsibility. Even the highly praised technical degrees were just slaves at a computer or lab station up until now.

                  Every JO, at age 21-22 on, has give or take a dozen personnel under their supervision (granted some have a chief, though I didn't). It is not something you see in the civilian world often at all.

                  And managing soldiers/sailors is quite a different thing than managing free-thinking civilians.
                  It is. Depending on your sailors it is far more taxing. I don't suppose you've picked up any of your charges up from the police station. Or managed their personal finances. Or stood by them in court for their reckless driving tickets. Or had them cry to you in your office about the wife leaving them. Maybe you do all that, but that is hardly normal in the civilian world.

                      As opposed to you, which is free from upper responsibility?

                      The slave comment is funny. I'm pretty autonomous, me and my team. Technically the only people above me are the Chiefs of the company. Then again I work for a ~200 man consultant shop.
