Then the revolutionary Army were traitors to Britain for they did the same, they took up arms against the legitimate government.

It all depends on whether you win or not. If you are on the losing side you are traitors.
yeah they were traitors. All secessionists are traitors but I can sympathize with most secessionist movements even though, technically, they are traitors. My beef with the Confederacy goes beyond that.

My anti confederacy bias relates to what I see in their declared motives in seceding. They *all* went on and on about the perceived threat to slavery. If they had merely mentioned slavery in those documents and speeches that alone would have set me against them but to give it such a prominent place in all their deliberations on secession brands them and all who fought for them evil.

As a minor aside I also fault them for the massive increase in federal power and loss of state rights that resulted from their rebellion. The way they did it we ended up having to choose between either a tremendous reduction in states right or a tremendous entrenchment of slavery as an unassailable institution.

I have only one beef with the modern south and it's the widespread admiration for these evil wankers who did nothing of value for their people or any people and wasted their talents on such an evil enterprise.

Oh, undoubtably, the secessionists did more to destroy states rights than if they simply stayed. If they stayed, they would have been a bullwark against intruding federal power, but after they left, and especially after they lost, the "radical" Republicans were able to dramatically expand federal power. Now, the Republican Party had been a big government party since its founding (the disintegration of the Whigs), but it was further radicalized due to the secession of the big strongholds of the Democratic Party.

Not that that is entirely a bad thing, because that allowed for slavery to be dealt with quickly, as the radical Republicans were able to get the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments through without all that much opposition (though the 14th was a bit watered down from what they really wanted... ie, the 1964 Civil Rights Act)
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I don't really care much for this debate, but this just made me laugh.

So I imagine it would be rather unlikely for a General George Washington Day to be celebrated in the British Empire, or Sam Adams Day, or a day for any of the other leaders of our rebellion. We aren't part of your empire anymore, so they aren't traitors. The South is still part of our empire, so their heroes are traitors.

Just accept us as we are and love us. What's with always living in Podunk rural areas? Next you'll be living in Jacksonville.

Oklahoma City isn't a rural area. It's just full of Okies. Anyway, it's not that bad. We're happy here.

The air is better. My son has asthma. Here he doesn't even have to take steroids that give him sores in his mouth.
