I live in a building with 112 Units, and there are a LOT of families, so many that they are looking for space to put a playroom for all the damned rugrats. Maybe you should move to a dynamic lively city and not that dump you live in.Originally posted by DanS
It's a pretty simple standard. Most people can go live in a normal US suburb and enjoy a very high standard of living. It's not the same in a city. I live in the city and none of those nice scenes that this guy pictures include families -- there's not a single family in my ~ 150 unit condo building.
Americans live in suburbs because gas is cheap in the US and banks are willing to loan cheap money for new housing developments.Look, Americans have a great deal of choice about where they will live and have few qualms about moving. In the US, we have a tendency to tear down a rebuild our buildings every fifty years or so. This video is pretty spot about the importance of creating civic environments that people actually enjoy being around. No one wants to be near a boxy, ugly superstores like Wal-Mart or K-Mart with a massive 6 lane round dividing them.
I think our rampant consumerism since the end of World War II has contributed to this greatly and a declining sense of style and fashion. Just look at what was built and the way people dressed back then. Yet look how people dress today, tacky t-shirts, jeans worn even in the work place, sweat-pants, etc.Comment
