What about biological factors? I remember being terribly confused as a child by American cartoons with comedy termites eating houses. The concept of one's home being destroyed by insects just made no sense whatsoever.

The exterior walls of my home are over a metre thick.

Termites are a problem only in some areas of the country. But where they are a problem, the exterminator takes care of those.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

My house is constructed of downed redwood trees, elephant ivory, and gold melted down from ancient Incan artifacts.

Oh, I also built the house over an ancient Indian burial ground but I dug up the remains and threw them in the concrete mixer before laying the foundation.

Not too fussed about what happens to the church tbh, but I'm sure many devout Croatians would disagree. :troll: On second thoughts - turn the church into flats. I live in a neo-gothic church conversion and it's cool.
Some would probably agree about the church - it's a Serbian Orthodox one

BTW here converting churches into something else is unheard of unless it's another place of worship.

Goes without saying slave labour was involved in the building, children I presume?

Not just any children, but children orphaned after their parents suffered horrible accidents in the construction industry. Their tears help power the excavators.

Is it still open for business? Are there many Serbs in Zagreb?

The Victorians went a bit over-the-top in building churches and chapels in the hope that the unruly 19th century Londoners would start attending and become model Christians. I don't think it ever really worked, but in recent times devout secularism has become so entrenched that vast swathes of the ecclesiastic buildings have no hope of getting a decent number of customers. Turning them into flats is an excellent way of preserving the external architecture.

cities are already worth living in depending on who you are as a person. since most places arent new york, most cities arent the pinnacle of what a city can be and should be; living, breathing, 24 hour a day playgrounds for adults to thrive in.
