    So can the penis mix and match between species?

    I got to wondering about this today when I turned around in the kitchen to see Gizmo our dog trying to hump Samantha our cat. So I got to thinking can different species do it with others not of their own kind? I mean it is just a penis after all and they all seem to fit in similar spots..... so could Gizmo have completed the deed?

        The cell machinery prevents it from happening, and if it could happen there would be serious problems with chromosome mismatching.

          Point is it's still two cats. I mean two totally different species, of course within the same size range. I mean really, you couldn't expect a horse to try to mate with a beaver and actually pull it off.

                      I always though Ligers were a figment of Napoleon Dynamites imagination.

                      Conceivably any animals that have approximately the same sized plumbing could physically copulate (if you get them drunk/horny enough) but animals must be very very close evolutionarily to produce off-spring and the off-spring are very often sterile.

                            Well, interspecies sex isn´t something that never happens,
                            but as others already said,
                            it normally produces no offspring.

                            Mules might be one of the exceptions,
                            being crosses between horses and donkeys,
                            but even they aren´t 100% functional,
                            as they´re sterile.
