Yeah, the college basically is the town since the mills are gone. It also functions as a suburb, to an extent. A lot of condos have been built recently, but its mostly within the last 10yrs or so and more in the surrounding towns than here.

Yeah, it's made me a bit nervous too. I'm guessing the big problem is that, since they were originally intended as rentals for grad students, there's not enough space for a family that would want to buy. The bigger units went fairly quickly, but students don't want to buy and tend to get out of town as fast as possible after graduating.Originally posted by BlackCat
Three years are a very short period, especially now. The fact that they can't sell empty units makes me even more nervous if it's only for 3-5 five years."In the beginning was the Word. Then came the ******* word processor." -Dan Simmons, Hyperion

Are there 2 breadwinners in the family? If yes, will one of those breadwinners be taking any time off if a child is born?I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

About your fiance's job, on a scale of 1-10, how stable is it? 1 is a job in mortgage brokerage while 10 is a government "iron rice bowl" job.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. In this case condo is ownership of the same unit I'd be renting otherwise, with the exception that the units being sold as condos are newly redone (almost entirely gutted, actually, it's mostly just the structure that's the same. But the building itself is only 20 years old.)Originally posted by VetLegion

Koyaanisqatsi I always thought you were in Finland because of the nickname. If I may ask what is the difference between an apartment and a condo, and what does the conversion you mention include?"In the beginning was the Word. Then came the ******* word processor." -Dan Simmons, Hyperion

Probably 7. Also would not be hard to find a replacement if something were to happen with it, the area doesn't retain professionals very well.Originally posted by DanS

Is her job the type where she could get a very substantial raise? That is, short of winning the lottery, of course.
