although he did just have a brain scan that indicated he was likely headed for Alzheimers and some reduced cognitive function was part of it.

IIRC, Denny said it was because of the mad cow, but the Doc didn't confirm. If he did have mad cow, there is no way he'd be as relatively healthy as he is now. Besides, Denny was convinced he had mad cow after he tried a case about tainted meat.

He isn't from West Point. According to wiki, his diploma said he went to Dartmouth for undergrad.

Though they say he has been referenced to have gone to Harvard and the Naval Academy in various parts of the show. Those may be half facetious, or, rather, just because you go somewhere doesn't mean you graduate from there .
