They do a similar thing iirc. Take cases and twist them somewhat for their plot.

You?!!
Do you froth at the mouth when Alan Shore gives one of his patented uber-liberal closing arguments?
I watch Boston Legal too, but at times I get tired of the liberal preachiness. Though even that can be amusing sometimes.
For the OP:
Define "hit current issues", btw . Battlestar Galactica had a plot early last season that was a direct parallel to the Iraq War and terrorist detentions.

They have been doing that too much lately, and it gets transparent. But overall it is far more realisitic than something like Boston Legal in terms of how the criminal justice system works.

I haven't watched TV since the Idol series hit the airwaves so I will defer to you on this.

I'd much rather watch something both entertaining, with interesting political commentary, than one of the many melodramatic shows with a marginally more realistic portrayal of the law.

People don't want to see how the criminal justice system works. People want DENNY CRANE!

For sure-- no one would watch Boston Legal as realistic of anything-- It most reminds me of Allie McBeale-- lots of weirdness set in a lawfirm-- I think BL does more of the current issues though

Nope-- I even agree with sometimes- Those uber-liberal arguments are long on sympathy and the reality is that often a competent mouthpiece on the other side would nail him to the wall

Definition not needed as if someone thinks that a show "hits current issues" however THEY wish to define it . . . thats fine by me.
To me your BSG obviously qualifies-- could be an interesting episode to catch

I haven't seen Boston Legal but I would be surprised if it could be more liberal than Family Law.

Interesting first 4 or so eps. Basically the good guys are under occupation and resort to terrorism.

I have trouble imagining a show more liberal than Boston Legal. Basically, it's like as if the staff at Air America wrote it (if they were funny).

Well, Family Law's theme song was War, and it started in 1999.

However, they do apparently have many parallels. This includes this actress Meredith Eaton and Family law had the supporting actor of Happy Gilmore (Shooter McGavin) and Boston Legal has the supporting actress (the chick). They are 2 and 3 after Adam Sandler on IMDB.

If this is supposed to be in the same universe as Boston Public and The Practice, then how is a Vice Principal now a judge? (I am watching an episode right now)

The same way the same actors keep on showing up in the law and order franchise in different roles-- it may be the same actor but its a different character on the show ( if you NEED an explanation it was the undisclosed/unknown twin that the soaps seem to love so much)

I just watched the gun control episode. I am sorry, but Family Law is more liberal. When Denny Crane shot his gun multiple times in the office, nothing really happened. In Family Law, when they found out Shooter McGavin had a gun with no ammo in his locked desk, everyone in the office started crying, included Tony Danza.
