A 4 year old can recompile the Linux kernel if they know how to type "make".

The computer savvy user knows not to use sub-standard software that makes you hold its hand to do everything.

The computer savvy should be open-minded enough to see the upsides of other software. Heck, even BeOS has its upsides.

BeOS had many upsides. Particularly from a computer science perspective.

Linux, not so much. The only real upside is "it's free" and "if you have no life, you can make it work decently".

Computer science is about people who have no life

For sure, your wish not to see upsides of Linux is rather impressive

It's not my wish, it's my extensive experience with it. The only people who love it are extreme cheapasses or masochists. (FACT)

Is "Asher" also a Linux distribution, or does your intense hatred for it come from a different source

Or, there are some people among Linux users who actually prefer the functionality and aren't using the system merely because of its price

Software which keeps trying to hold your hand is so much more awesome .

What did you compile a Linux kernel for, anyway? Make it a vegetarian OS?

Are there other OSes that can be run from a CD?

Lots of. Live CDs are pretty popular now. Most live OSes are Linuxes, but there are BSD and even Solaris based live disks.

                                Given Patroklos' definition of a 10 I'm probably a 9½; given JulianD's definition I'd say more like an 8, so that's what I voted.
