  • So, what's the deal with Janis Joplin?

Seriously, why would anyone ever listen to her voluntarily? I really feel like there must be something I'm missing here, because she's allegedly some sort of famous singer/songwriter, but both her songs and her voice are awful.

    I just don't understand. I really don't.

"Piece of My Heart" is awesome.

Otherwise, you're right, or more right than wrong anyway.

I think a lot of her popularity rests on her groundbreaking status, as the first authentic female rock icon.

I'm not sure, thought, that saying someone's voice is horrible is a necessary eliminator for rock (see Bob Dylan) .

But you see, Bob Dylan was a great songwriter.

Yeah, but he should have stopped at the songwriting. :allalongthewatchtower:

She actually sounded pretty good when she wasn't stoned out of her mind. Which probably happened less then five one hour periods of her entire life.

Don't think she wrote Bobby McGee, could be wrong though...

Bob has a ...unique... voice, I'll admit, but his is the only voice that makes his songs work. Most Dylan covers stink (there are notable exceptions).
