This is hilarious.....multi-billion dollar studios are stiffing the writers, and then they cry that the evil writers are hurting the "little guy."

I think it's about 30:20 closedpen but I'm not entirely sure. Illinois is a closed shop state, but that's the only one I'm sure about.
California is a "right to work" state. Meaning there are no closed union shops.

I care more for the WGA than I do for the RIAA/MPAA/Studios.

Of course, anybody who has employment and is striking, well, I want to smack them upside the head.

If it's work for hire, you've agreed to compensation. Giving up your intellectual property rights is part of the deal. But there has to be a signed contract for it to be "work for hire." Without that, the creator retains right to his/her work.

But I have no idea what the union's deal entails. I assume the legalities are all part of the contract. The landscape has changed, and they rightfully want to share in new revenue streams that weren't previously in existence.

I hate to see the crew guys taking the economic brunt of it. That sucks.

Am I the only one who supports the WGA for the sole reason that the longer they sit on their asses, the more likely average slobs will start to get off their asses and live their lives instead of wasting time absorbing some laughable vicarious dreamland through the boob tube?

              Maybe only Ludd would understand...

Nah, I'm with you. I didn't know what WGA was until I read the thread. Haven't missed them, won't miss them and don't care.

Except for late shows, the effects are hard to find right now. And with how often some of the late shows air reruns, it would be hard to tell even from them.

Yeah, maybe now they'll spend their time productively, like posting on Poly.

I could start in about how BSing on Poly for 60 seconds each hour as a quick break from perpetual graduate study is hardly wasteful, but it's easier to posit that even 3 hours a night interactively engaging people on internet forums is time better spent than passively letting a TV set wash over you. I never said anything about sprinting outside to play basketball or build a sandcastle or whatever every waking minute; it's quite sufficient simply to do something.

Unless you watch television programs that engage your mind .

Those writters really should be fired and replaced by scabs. The scabs might do a better job.
