Bhutto Placed Under Arrest as Crackdown in Pakistan Grows

By JANE PERLEZ and DAVID ROHDE
    Published: November 9, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Friday, Nov. 9 — The opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was placed under house arrest this morning, her political party said. Streets were filled with police officers carrying batons and shields, and trucks blocked roads, trying to prevent access to a protest rally that Ms. Bhutto had helped organize in Rawalpindi, the garrison city adjacent to the capital of Islamabad.

President Bush PERSONALLY called Musharraf yesterday and DEMANDED he hold elections, so it's OK because that will like totally work.

Musharraf agreed -- Feb 15 elections. Very calculated. Gets Bush off his back short-term, and all opposition should be dead by election day.

this aint a good point in time to be in the crosshairs of muslim fanatics and a nuke stockpile possibly up for grabs, I'll bet the Indians are pretty nervous too. To hell with Iran, Pakistan was, is, and will be our real problem.

I heard on the new Bush saying something about a president not being able to be head of state and commander in chief of the army at the same time.

Now, excuse me if i am wrong but in the US, the commander in chief is by definition the president right ?

Yes, he did. Yes, that's correct. And no, he doesn't have a f*cking clue what he's talking about.

Whatever he said, it is obvious he was talking about Musharraf being President and Army Cheif of Staff, or in other words holding active rank inside the army vice being a civilian head over it.

Musharraf is the head of state and the Army chief. The President of the US is commander in chief, meaning that there is civilian control of the Army, but he isn't the general on the top of the Army command structure. Basically it'd be like the Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff being both that and President of the US at the same time (which I'm not sure is allowed under the military... though I could be wrong).

No lie. A lot of countries aren't the good friends like Canada.
Why, I remember during the Viet Nam war, and how Canada volunteered to take trash off our hands.
