I am surprised that no one was able to disarm him while he reloaded. Perhaps the victims were too paralysed of chock to do it? 2 guys working together, attacking him from different directions would be enough. They could hit him with a chair in the head or whatever, while he was reloading. Perhaps some tried while he still had bullets ready and got shot in the head? I read that all the victims had several bullets in the head and upper torso. The .22 is a small but accurate tool, enough power to kill, but no recoil that makes the shooter sway the gun. And they probably didn't know what was going on until they had no chance to stop him, as the .22 is a very silent weapon, so they didn't wait behind a door with a chair to club him down as he entered. I don't know what the headmaster said on the public speaker system.

And it takes a special kind of person to risk his own life, trying to save a dozen others. At lest the headmaster probably died trying to stop him.

I don't know if that's realistic in such open space though. When crazy person starts shooting like that, I think everyone wants to get as far away as possible, I dont' think there's lots of people next to him when the reloading happens. Plus, the cops said he was an accurate shot as well. And yes, I think he was accurate and calculating, 70+ shots fired, 8 victims with multiple hits, and some shots on doors, next to the locks and so forth, so I don't think he was just wasting ammo. Which makes him even more of a psycho.

I heard an eye witness saying he entered a classroom, yelling that the revolution was here and ordered everyone inside to riot. So the class smashed all the furniture to keep him happy. Then he shot a bullet through the classroom TV and moved on to the next room. No one in that class was shot.

Right. Go figure. It also lasted fairly long, at least an hour or so, maybe two hours or longer. So he wasn't just shooting randomly. Kind of weird. I mean it's difficult to understand that someone would do a spree like that, but then again it wasn't a full on spree, so what was he doing? Very weird.

- A group of ninth graders at the Jokela School in Tuusula were eyewitnesses to the execution-style killing of their school’s head teacher Helena Kalmi [shown right] by gunman Pekka-Eric Auvinen on Wednesday. Watching from their classroom window, they saw Kalmi first fleeing the attacker, but later she went back. Auvinen forced Kalmi onto her knees and then shot her.

- The police have not found any indication that Auvinen would have deliberately targeted the principal from the outset. However, Helsingin Sanomat has been told that there had been an argument between Auvinen and the principal before Wednesday.

- Eyewitnesses said that the school nurse had been shot as she tried to help other victims of the shooting. Police had long thought that the body of the fairly small woman had been that of a student.

- Forensic pathologist Antti Sajantila does not believe that any of the victims could have survived even if they had received immediate treatment. Most of his victims had been shot in the head and chest. The number of bullets in each victim varied from a few to about 20.

- During the approximately 20 minutes that the shooting spree lasted, Auvinen fired at least 69 rounds.

- Another 320 unused bullets were found in his possession. He had also tried unsuccessfully to set fire to the school, using a liquid fuel.

- Police said on Thursday that Auvinen shot some of the people he confronted at the school, and left others alone. It appears that he chose his victims at random.

- Finally, Auvinen shot himself in the head. Police found him injured in a toilet at 2:53 PM. The police operation nevertheless continued for another two hours.

- Police say that Auvinen’s parents have received threats after the shooting, and they have been given special protection.

Anyway, now the nation of idiots reveals itself. Banning websites is once again at the table. I mean I think it's quite funny how adults do not understand or see the problem of mental sickness period.

It's like "we don't know our youth anymore" and everyoen is a potential killer or can turn into one easily. Some feel they've created a monster and woke up to it. Well... you know what, you were idiots before this and you are idiots now, so ask for change, change yourself first.

Boys 'planned Stockholm school shooting'

Two teenage boys have been arrested in Stockholm on suspicion of conspiring to kill the headmaster of their school, in an attack seemingly inspired by Wednesday's shooting in Jokela, Finland.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, are accused of planning to kill the headmaster of the Enskede Gård Gymnasium, Rolf Ödén. The pair were arrested separately on Friday morning. At least one of the boys was at home with his family when police called. Neither arrest was dramatic, police say.

Police are treating the crime as conspiracy to murder. To gain a conviction for conspiracy to murder, prosecutors would have to show that the accused had planned and prepared to carry out the killing.

"We want to see what the investigation brings up and find out what substance there is to these suspicions. The first interviews have been held, but I cannot comment on the background to the suspicions," said Karin Solberg of Stockholm Police.

According to Öden himself the boys had made a serious threat against the school and against him personally. They were allegedly inspired by the events in Jokela on Wednesday and by earlier school massacres such as the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School, Colorado.

"They had spoken about and glorified Columbine High and what happened in Finland. They are fixated on guns, and that has made us react in the past, but previously there were never any threats," Ödén said.

Ödén said he felt obliged to call the police on Thursday after signs that the boys' behaviour had become threatening.

"I think one should be frank. It is my duty to investigate all possible threats and violations," he said.

He said that the atmosphere at the school on Friday was calm.

"As I've walked around, everything is calm and collected. No panic and nobody staying at home as far as we know. I have informed the staff and they have informed the pupils," he said.

The boys are to be allocated public defenders. Police say they will interview them further over the weekend.
