Let me see if I can explain to you why you are single.

The definition of security according to women: Financial stability, support both emotionnal and with the kids and self confidence.
If you lack any of those, in her eyes, you will not get her, or if you are already with her and are failing at one of these, most likely, you will get dumped.

Its a package, and its not complete without one of these.

I've always been rather partial to "...if you got no money and you got no car, then you got no woman, and there you are." Which is obviously only part of "security" because there is an emotional component as well.

That is so untrue. More often tha not, no women (unless shes britney spears) will go out with a lazyass man that she has to pay for all the time, but a guy will pay for a woman with no income if he finds her hot and fun to be with.

Hmm. Well, though it's not nearly that extreme, one could see my marriage that way.

My wife is the driven hard-working go-getter, bringing in the larger income. I'm the slacker, smart enough to skate by on minimal effort @ work, bringing in the lesser, though still solid, income.

The security she feels with me is primarily emotional, not so much on the financial support angle. If we have kids (odds are probably under 50% at this point), I would be the parent to go part-time or stop working entirely. But then my wife is atypical in many ways.
