  • Winamp 5.5

It is quite cool, and it's Media Library is getting strong enough to really use it a primary music management software.

It still lacks many quality features in players such as Media Monkey, such as auto-rating, the ability to change media information directly from the playlist etc, but it is definitly getting sleeker.

I also don't like teh new Bento skin. But otherwise, it's pretty good. Winamp Remote is pretty good, too, but since it's just a slimmed-down version of Orb, I'm sticking with Orb.

What I really miss from Winamp 2.x is teh playlist length display at teh bottom of teh playlist window. Sometimes, I'd really like to know how long my playlist is going to play for.

i actually grown to like it more than regular modern winamp, which felt like a very bad mix between a good standalone player (winamp 2) and a serious media application.

i rate winamps as the following:

        1) Winamp Classic 2.9 (excellent as small player)
        2) Winamp 5.5 Bento (best ML out of winamp yet)
        ...
        last) Winamp 5.x

I use 2.74 since who knows how many years, never felt compelled to upgrade

What do you mean by "change media information directly from the playlist?" Do you mean something other than right-click -> file info?

                    yes

in media monkey you can click on the list itself and then the field becomes editable (also with auto-completion).

also it has very strong renaming / retagging abilities, ranging from using the filename, to searching online music sites (amazon, cddb etc) based on very partial information.

                    it is very very powerful.

the problem is the program is sometimes unstable, and it's graphic design is a bit weak.

                    btw, here's a tip:

delete winamps regular mp3 input dll and download MAD input plugin it gives better quality output.

also instead of the regular output dll, use sqrsoft advanced crossfading.

it really makes it jukeboxy and increases audio quality.

                        Huh?

How can mp3 decoding be better or worse? There's only 1 way to decode mp3s...unless one is doing post-processing, which I usually hate.
