You should also fear that you encounter agressive species like the Klingons or the Gorn.
Without weapons on the ship you might be stardust before you can even say: "Hello I´m a teran, I come in peace"

    As for loneliness in space:
One shoulod hope that the ship includes a medical holographic emergency program

I think Data would be the best choice. He seemed to have enough information stored in him, and the ability to help you retrieve it and apply it, that you could work out a large number of important advances (even if those listed are considered "restricted") with him.

The ship (for the computer) and computer could be better options in that regard, but wouldn't be as easy to work with.

Hey can I get that ship with a side order of cloaking device-- or killer shields and enough speed to get away ??

I would figure that if the Klingons were real close they would have subjugated us already-- So either we are in an emptier part of the galaxy or those nearby are friendly enough to leave a more primitive species alone

Unless I made the mistake of entering their space, it seems like the Klingons only blasted you if you did something offensive like er er talking to them

I am hoping for it being a lot less crowded out there. Actually I would say I would find lots of emptiness and non-space faring races for every one that could even really detect my approach . .. Another reason I hope warp-capable means very very fast with enough sensors to see what I am heading for

Well I was planning to bring people with me. Although if the plan was to bring along a potential sex partner, you would need to be really careful. Its not easy to dump someone when you are 3 months travel from earth

            Data. The walking, talking, databank.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

If you have a transporter it's exceedingly easy.

                Well, duh.

I always figured the holodeck we saw was the "G" version and that for there were numerous private holosuites for personal enjoyment

                  Why do you think so?
I assume there are airlocks on the ship.

Well the warp-capable vessel doesn't come with a really sweet computer, so have fun charting courses.

Wrong and wrong, sensors isn't on the list, only the nifty portable tricorder. Navcomp isn't on the list, only a generic computer described as "sweet," usually meaning that you can play games on it.

of course, why do you think I selected holodeck?

I certainly wouldn't be reenacting some sherlock holmes or robin hood scenario. It might be cool to reinact a few historical events, but in the end, it's just higher class brothel.

Tricorder or replicator, both have their advantages in terms of helping the human race. No more starvation, or no more serious sickness... I vote tricorder because of the immediate medical uses.
Yup, I took the tricorder too
