Wait, I thought the tricorder was only a diagnostic device. If you can't fix/cure what you find, then it has limited value.

You get all the basics, but no Universal translator. It's got durable parts and a few replacements in case you do something silly.

Well, the replicators in Star Trek cannot replicate any living thing. The instances where the can are weird so I discount them.

I'm not saying the rules make sense, I'm just telling you what they are.

Well, small ones can. You can pick the size (provided the Federation has something that big)

Yep it comes with that. (although it would still be useful without a remote)

They're not that long ranged. Gets you around Earth and to the ISS, but not much more.

That's false. Some of us like girls with a bit of fight in them.

So you'll leave her stranded to die alone but won't keep her confined in a box for a couple months?

                      Twisted morality!

But really, you're going to use a spaceship to pick up hot chicks and take them on long rides, pick up multiple in case some are dissapointing.

                      • you guys are insane!! Bringing a bunch of women with you on a starship. It would drive you up a wall. I don't know how polygamists do it. They'd be nagging you to take out the trash, even though you can't venture out into space. Or they'd say the outside of the ship needs painting, as it isn't attractive if someone else sees it.

You don't see Kirk bringing chicks on cruises do you? As my father always said "**** em' and leave em'" It probably wasn't the best advice he gave me, but he wasn't much of a father .

makes you wonder how many Kirk babies Kirk left behind on alien planets.

... Which makes a great idea for the new trek series/movies

*runs to push this idea before you guys steal my idea*

                        • Well the question is mostly do you have a steady supply off-world? I can't garuntee an abundance of beautiful female aliens as seen in Star Trek.

Remember this is Star Trek technology, but our universe

                          • Transporter and replicator work on the same principle: they assemble particles into a given shape (pattern).

In the case of the transporter, the particles are de-assembled, sent to a 'buffer' location through air/space and re-assembled on target place.
What is important is that it is the original particles that are reassembled. Every cell, every molecule, every atom, every quark is back at its exact position in the pattern. You are fully you again.

In the case of the replicator, new particles are assembled in a given pattern, stored in the replicator's memory, but the particles your new cake may come from anything.

It is also possible to slightly alter the pattern of the person being transported. In one episode, Beverly is infected, on board, by an unknown virus that makes her age very fast. She is 80 in only a few hours.
The virus comes from a planet where experiments are made.
She is sent to the planet to help the researchers find where it exactly comes from.
When they discover it, they understand there is no short term solution and all of them are going to die.
The crew gets Beverly back, young and healthy, through the transporter thanks to a 'young and healthy' DNA sample of her (from a hair found in her bathroom) and a decaying pattern of her when she used the transporter at the very beginning of the episode. With this DNA sample, they are able to restore the pattern. Old and sick Beverly is reassembled into a young and healthy one.
The books that the world calls immoral are the books that show the world its own shame. Oscar Wilde.
