Your problem that you don't understand that Putin has support of absolute majority of the Russian population, because Russians like his achievments as president. And it is what democracy is all about - people will vote for whom they like. The end of story. If he will be the leader of party in parliament - fine, but he won't be a president, God damn it.
Face it-putin is holding onto power in russia for as long as possible, and whether his title is President, Premier, or gran mohlala he is still the dictator.

Nope, it would be a too much of an honour for you. I'll just sell your soul to Cthulhu, instead.

            Yeah, right
Whatever, it's up to us to decide whom me want to see as our new president and is it OK to a popular as hell politician to stay in the Russian politic or not to stay. We will decide that, not you. So, just FOF, please.

            The dictator, my arse

              Not you decide on that.

Well, the whole "successor" talk in the media pisses me off rather badly.
If Mr. Pu shows up next year and really does say 'Hello folks, this is Misha/Gena/Vova, he's the best candidate, vote for him,' this would be the most stupid thing he could possibly do. Piggybacking on Putin's popularity through the elections <> democracy.
However, I have no problem with Mr. Pu becoming the prime minister. After all, PMs are selected by the president, and if the democratically elected president thinks Mr. Pu can lead the government, so be it.
But I still do believe a "free-for-all" with Putin wearing a Mona Lisa smile would be the best scenario for the upcoming elections.

Russia has the right to pick its leaders, I just don't like the leaders they pick. But I'm sincere about it

Don't get me wrong, I want (and everyone in their right mind does) a rich, prosperous, fat, happy, drunk Russia. However, when these guys get rich, they get uppity and aggressive. Hence, as a responsible neighbour, I would prefer someone who would continue reforming Russia, who would further the rule of law (like Putin, to a large extent), but who would refrain from energy blackmail and subversive activities in neighbouring countries. Too bad I have no say in the matter

politics in russia is starting to look very similar to politics in the old GDR.

You know, in a way it really doesn't make sense for the most experienced leaders to stay out of politics. At least in theory, wouldn't it be a nice idea to have special Senate seats reserved for ex-Presidents?

Putin is a completely different matter though, he wants to retain his executive powers under a different name, but it's food for thought.

Well, Sir - I will let you keep your delusions, that you live in a democratic society. You seem to deserve them.

Just don't come running to me, crying your eyes out, in 20 years when Putin is still President/Prime Minister/Dictator and you have all realized that this is whole thing is only about keeping power for him and his friends, and has nothing whatsoever to do with what is best for the Russian people.

You think he's going to be PM for a full term? IIUC, under the Russian constitution, the PM takes over the President resigns - thats how Putin originally succeeded Yeltsin (who had appointed him, everyone forgets). As long as the new Prez is Prez for even one day, Putin hasnt succeeded himself.
