You think he's going to be PM for a full term? IIUC, under the Russian constitution, the PM takes over the President resigns - thats how Putin originally succeeded Yeltsin (who had appointed him, everyone forgets). As long as the new Prez is Prez for even one day, Putin hasnt succeeded himself.
Heh. I haven't thought of that.
I don't think it will really be a day though. He'll do a year or maybe two, to make it slightly less blatant.

But in that case PM just becomes an acting president and a new presidential election must be held within three months. This is unlike the US, where VP becomes a full president without a new election.
Don't worry. When Lithuania is back where it belongs to, you will surely be granted voting rights.

Well, I don't he'll have much a problem getting elected again? It's not as if the serfs will refuse to vote Lord Putin into office for a third time.

Maybe the serfs won't refuse. Yet the fact that it is not automatic is an important circumstance to consider. The country will be disturbed by a new election campaign for at least another three months.
Elections are ruining Russia. So much wasted time and energy.

Well, Sir - I will let you keep your delusions, that you live in a democratic society. You seem to deserve them.
Just don't come running to me, crying your eyes out, in 20 years when Putin is still President/Prime Minister/Dictator and you have all realized that this is whole thing is only about keeping power for him and his friends, and has nothing whatsoever to do with what is best for the Russian people.
Asmodean
The absolute majority of the Russian people do not mind if Putin will be their president again. His popularity is not faked, however Putin himself do not want to break our constitution and WON'T go for a third term.
You really have no idea wtf are you talking about. Delusions, my ass. It is you who lives in a fanasy world where Putin is dictator.
You have the same right to decide who should be a president of Russia, as I have to decide who should be a Queen of Denmark.

So... did you just admit that Putin is a new Tzar?

This is not a question of constitutional loopholes. Term limits exist to prevent people from staying in power too long, thus decreasing the chances of a country to end up ruled by a dictator. So even if Putin does nothing unconstitutional, he most definitely breaks this principle and you're all going to regret it one day.
