Ive read that Russia, China and GERMANY are opposing a significant tightening of sanctions.
Dunno, I just read in an article about that Kouchner speech that he referred to Germany as proponent of tougher Eu sanctions against Tehran, which he agreed to.

      This from Reuters on Friday

Looks like Germany is trying to thread the needle - trying to avoid confronting US-UK-France, but trying to at least defer a new UNSC resolution.

Im not entirely sure how the proposed EU sanctions square with the UNSC resolution. The intent, IIUC, is to pressure Iran even if Russia and China prevent a new UNSC res. I presume Germanys stand, while positive on the euro santions, would at least mean waiting for the next IAEA report and a delayed UNSC discussion. I dont suppose thered be any reason to flat out oppose UNSC sanctions and yet support EU sanctions, though trying to avoid a bruising fight on the UNSC floor with Russia and China may be a consideration.

OTOH we dont usually have those anyway - at least not to the point of taking a resolution to a vote and forcing a veto. Folks only seem to like forcing US vetos.

I'll be on a tropical beach soaking up the sun, drinking slushy rum drinks and eating tree ripened sweet mangos or I'd be there.

                      1. Have you ever been to Soest, Nordrhein-Westfalen? If so, did you like it there? If not, have you ever heard of it?

                      2. Why does most good German beer come from Bavaria, and why does Bremen excel at mass producing shameful swill like Becks and St. Pauli?

                      3. What are the top ten English language German history books?

Turks in Germany probably spend lots of euros voting for Turkey (votes are by phone or SMS, right? You can vote many times that way). For them it's probably a matter of great importance.

On the other hand Croatia and Serbia share some culture and tastes and it is not limited to immigrants or minorities but crosses ethnic boundaries due to there being no language barrier.

What does "germanic" mean? Or "deutsche"? I mean the origin of these words.
Is the mention of Niemen river still existant in your national anthem?
Do people born in pre-ww2 Germany still can demand german citizenship, or is it over already?
Do You have any word like tesser, thesser, tassar, thessar or something?
Why don't You annex Austria? It's a mock country anyway.
How very different is Upper and Lower German? Is literary, official german closer to the upper or lower one? Which one do You speak?
                          Do You know Gleiwitz?
