I've not been to the first pub you mentioned but the Old Bank of England is nice.

i think the cheapest is terravision bus from stansted to liverpool street or victoria which is £8 one way and takes about an hour. you can get the bus from the main bus/coach area out the front of stansted on the lower level

PH is a generous soul. If you arrive at a good time he'd give you a lift straight back to his place. It'd be far quicker and cheaper (diesel money).
