Do I say "Da" or "Ja" when he asks?

I'd go with, 'youbetcha' and a smile.

chabad has made major efforts to reach out to Soviet immigrants, so I don't think saying "da" would phase them much. Saying Ja, they might respond in Yiddish.

Tell me how to speak Jewish to these people then. How would I say "Yes, I am Jewish." to make me sound Jewish? I need to be authentic!

                  Say

                  "yes, I'm Jewish"

                  That usually works for me.

                  Or you could try

"I hate you Chabadniks, you don't respect us, my Reform shul is just fine, and my cousin Dave was messed up after joining Chabad ........"

That would convince them you're Jewish even more than the first, but they will probably move on even faster than they did.

Which is more convincing: Yesh, I'm Jewish. Or. Yes, I'm jewish.

I suppose I should be thankful they didn't assault me. I just saw Lucky Number Slevin the other day.
