I'm unsure of it but the 5 return trips make the incident much more troubling to me.

I dunno, ya think a kid whos just burnt the family house down and spend several weeks in a burn ward, and whose face is disfigured for life, is more inclined to be careful with fire than a kid who was warned for playing with matches?

I once ran with POTM through an airport when she was a baby.

No. I see no reason why a person that disengaged from even the basic level of care they are expected to give their children is going to suddenly become a better parent now.

I can't say that definatively but the 5 return trips to the car raises my alarm bells.

Because he was at a brothel, probably.

I presume because the DA investigated, and found the facts in his case made him appear more culpable than in the other case. I suspect that he was not the custodial parent and could have other motivations might enter in as well.

But thats all speculation based on minimal info. Im not second guessing the DA in either case.

I didnt ask if you could say definitively. I asked what you think.

As I said, I could see hoping for the death penalty if I was in her shoes.
Lack of intent isn't an adequate defense and guilt after the fact isn't adequate punishment. If that were the case there would be no laws about manslaughter and criminal negligence. This woman was clearly criminally negligent and deserves whatever punishment others who commit manslaughter deserve.

But that's legal in NV. He probably just forgot about the kid.

@ LOTOM: The 5 return trips raises that possibility IMO.

                                DD,

You asked why. I gave you what I thought was the most probably answer. To take it further, being at a brothel, though legal in NV, makes his behavior regarding the welfare of his young child all the uglier, and may have lead the DA to charge him.

Or it could just be that the DA in that case was zealous, and the DA in this one isn't. I dunno.
