It isn't, which is exactly the problem.

Guns are egalitarian instruments of violence. All you have to do is point it and pull the trigger. No matter how weak, crippled or small you are, you can do that and defend yourself on an equal footing as the strongest man.

If we get rid of guns and people go back to using swords or knifes then the strong will more easily dominate the weak.

Guns are good for democracy and equality.

So you want people with good aim and manual dexterity to dominate the population? Halocracy?

The key is not having a gun..it is having an unregistered gun.

This is madness. Shouldn't you get back to advocating that the age of consent be reduced to 8, or whatever it is that your organization does...

The problem with freely available guns is that it creates an arms race among the citizenry. It's a classic prisoner's dilemma that causes a race to the bottom.

The more people have guns, the unsafer it makes everyone – including the gun owners. This is the problem with you Americans, in your ranting about individual rights you are completely incapable of seeing how your actions affect the wider world, and so end up in situations where all of you end up worse off.

Your country seems to be an experiment in how much squalor, incivility and crime people can put up with in order not to feel "unfree".
