What happens to these figures if we only count 'privately' owned military weapons? The Africans and Middle Easterners may not have as many hand guns per capita as we do, but I'll bet their relative possession of assault rifles, machine guns, grenades, grenade launchers, and mortars ( excluding their respective official military establishments ) is higher."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

You mean weapons of mass destruction? Doesn't count.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

My ex-girlfriend's father owns a handgun (along with a multitude of other firearms). I think he planned on using it on me.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Anyways, he was cornered at an ATM once by a thug who had a knife. He quietly pulled the gun out, pointed it at the thug, and the thug bolted. So I guess that's an instance where a firearm was used well.
He was also very well trained in the use of firearms. He cleaned his guns and practiced with them regularly. In addition, he taught his children how to use them responsibly so that there weren't any instances of finding a gun in the sock drawer and blowing someone's head off.
I'm generally against the idea of the widespread proliferation of guns, but I have no problem with weapons if they are owned and used responsibly. My girlfriend's family was a pretty good model of this, I think.
I actually try to have a pretty consistent opinion on these sorts of things.
Dangerous things should probably be avoided altogether, but since we shouldn't really be restricting how people live their lives, we should make sure people do things intelligently and responsibly if they're going to do them.
To me, this applies to guns, drugs, alcohol, sex, and probably a good number of other activities. All these things can be disastrous if played with carelessly, or fun and fulfilling if done smartly.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Pretty lucky, only 10% chance that the thug didn't have a gun.

Gun owners in New Zealand are one of the most respected segments of the population. This is because no-one is more focused on gun safety and responsible gun use than New Zealand's licensed firearm owners. If you want a firearms license in New Zealand, you will have to take approved courses in gun safety. These courses are, more often than not, run by senior members of gun clubs, as part of their love for guns and their desire to see them used responsibly. When I was a kid, I had many opportunities to fire rifles and pistols. I always did so under the supervision of a licensed owner, so my parents were cool with it.
The NRA are dumb. They don't understand that if they accepted proper firearms licensing, and took some responsibility for helping the state enforce responsible ownership, that they would become a greatly respected institution, and the public would largely leave them alone.Only feebs vote.
