Not really the 3rd ring of hell. A useless, festering ****hole full of all sorts of people with competing agendas and plenty of firepower plus the will to use it, yes. Throw in an impotent government that shows no signs of being able to get anything done. Third ring of hell, not quite yet, but it's still baking in the oven. Maybe needs a litle dusting of brimstone.

In this situation, now matter how brave or what the motivation, individual acts of bravery really don't matter. What would be newsworthy would be if the government actually did something of note, or if a significant chunk of Iraq was stabilized enough, and Iraqi forces trained enough, to turn over security to the Iraqis. (not counting barren patches of sand - I'm talking some area with significant population and a history of problems, that has reached a point where the US can turn it over and largely free up the forces that had been used for a security presence.)

In other words, real progress at a strategic level. That would be newsworthy.

I know what I'm saying. I'm responding appropriately to your misinformation.

So the media should stop covering individual bombings then? Or each each American casualty?

There is no getting around it, the media reports some things and not others, and their individual merits as news has nothing to do with it.

Which is fine, as long as we apply the standard universally. I want to hear nothing else about bombings, American casualties, electical outages, or the like as by your own accounting they are also "crap."

This is how your reports look? No information at all?

No Kid, this is how your reports look if you don't apply your standards half ass like you do now.

My reports include all the things mentioned.

                        Sheesh

I tell my boss what he needs to know and I provide SUPPORTING information. Not information that will confuse him.

So you tell him what you want him to hear. That doesn't fly in my line of work.

How do you get"what I want him to hear" for "what he needs to know?"

Because your the one making that determination. Its what you think he needs to know, not what he thinks.

The same hold true for news networks and their audiences.
