Since you included Iran, China and Pakistan in the list, it will all go down after my children's children's are dead, so I don't care.

How does this fit into your "No more ships; A lot more drinking" philosophy?

Thats for me personally as I bask in the glory that is shore duty. I happily pat all the graduating butterbar nukes students who trickle out of here ever two weeks on the back as they go to figure out what sea time is.

In other words, its their turn

Carriers are usefull when you already have military hegemony. They are usefull to maintain it. I don't think they are particularly suited for war. You can use allied airbases or make due without a carrier.

Well, do you think the US is the only one who should be able to project their power to the other side of the globe?
Because compared to Russia America is actually fairly... cant believe im going to say this... sensible.
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I doubt we will see much more than Russia, China, and India increasing their carrier fleets. Pakistan will come to rely on a Chinese umbrella. They have already allowed the Chinese to build a deep water port capable of supporting Chinese Carrers (should there ever be such a thing).

Iran and on down the list do not have the financial and/or logistical ability to keep a modern carrier going. Projecting force ain't cheap.

How dare you call any government headed by George W. Bush "sensible."

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I'll have to say that Putin is the less insensible.

The truth of this should scare the hell out of the world.

Not that both of them aren't way too militaristic for my blood.

Hence the reason to be scared....

Indeed, I see a new Cold War, but I actually think Russia and China might team up together against the U.S. It seems these two countries are dead set on ending the long reign of world influence the U.S. has had. Can we perhaps blame the Iraq war? Has it shown that our military is really very weak, so Russia and China hear oppurtunity knocking? I hope I'm wrong.
