For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
Ahhh...I see. Okay...how's this. I equate it to the left's fear of viability of success. Does that help? Certainly I do not feel like anyone can predict the ultimate sucess or failure of any Iraq policy.
No, that's not ok. And I wasn't the one who started calling people traitors. Do you or do you not stand by your statement which called Clyburn a traitor by equating Petraeus' opinion the viability of the strategy with success?

Yes, your words are just irrelevant phrases that have no connection to what you quoted.

My argument boils down to making informed judgments rather than mindlessly following the leader.
I don't think we totally disagree on this whole subject. In fact, only a fool (IMHO) would argue with this statement. However, we do have to recognize that there are those more informed than us, more knowledgable about the alternatives, and simply more qualified to make a reasonable judgement. Petraeus is the guy that we the people have hired to make that assesment. Congress are the folks we have hired to make sure he isn't lying or distorting things.

What makes him inferior to Petraeus as a Leader to follow?
1st of all, I never said to follow eithier as a leader. Petraeus position in theatre and in charge makes him vastly more qualified than Powell to make this report. Any statement to the contrary would be idiocy.

But the point of contention isn't fact. It's opinion and the ability to prognosticate.

He has more data. That doesn't mean that he has better judgment. Two separate things...

Please show me where I said Clyburn was a traitor. I didn't, did I?
So here is a little clarification for you. I think Clyburn is an ass who is bad for this country. However, I am sure that he imagines himself a patriot who is justified in doing anyting to get power so that he may properly lead us. Does that help?

Stop being coy. You were either misinformed or lied when you claimed that Clyburn said success is Iraq is a problem (i.e. is basically a traitor). Be a man and own up to it.

Okay...I'll agree with this. However, I would hope you would agree that the General in charge is the most qualified to offer an opinion. Surely you must acknowledge that there is no one better informed or more knowledgable about the situation on the ground over there right now?
As for as judgement...Who knows weather Powell's is better than Petraeus'? They are both (or in Powell's case has been) Generals...That does require no small amount of good judgement to get there.

It is his quote that says that. You even posted it!!!

I don't really care whether or not you believe that Petraeus is the greatest guy in the world. For the record, I think Petraeus is wrong, and I'm right. As I keep saying, there are smart people on both sides of the argument, so argument from authority is pointless.
But the only reason I got into this thread is that you and others were calling the Democratic leadership traitors (granted, without using that particular word). Are you going to own up to that?

No, it doesn't. Only if you equate Petraeus' opinion as to the viability of the strategy with success itself. And Petraeus once more becomes a God. Do you really not understand this distinction?

I haven't, but I will. here you go.
I believe that the democratic leadership are traitors to this country due to the fact that they will put their personal push for power above victory for our troops. I further believe they are traitors for constantly working to undermine the chances for success of the country while it is engaged in war.
There you go.

Here we will not reach any kind of concensus unless you change your mind...which appears unlikely to me.
