Actually wasn't it more the AT guns that beat Matildas? Germans would drive up in tanks, show themselves to the Brits, then run away. Brits would chase, run right into the waiting ATG ambush. 88s & flank shots from lesser guns would decimate the Brit tanks.
If you reand Panzer Leader/Lost Victories and other books they mention trying to use 88 flack alot in 1940 but the line was moving so fast they rarely made it to action. It should me noted the infantry lacked 8.8cm AT guns in 1940.
