Actually wasn't it more the AT guns that beat Matildas? Germans would drive up in tanks, show themselves to the Brits, then run away. Brits would chase, run right into the waiting ATG ambush. 88s & flank shots from lesser guns would decimate the Brit tanks.
No, the Pak guns the German infantry had were entirely ineffective against the frotal armor of the allied tanks (just like the tank guns). Most allied armor was beaten by manuever (allied tanks were still vulnerable in the sides and rear) and superior tactics in general.

If you reand Panzer Leader/Lost Victories and other books they mention trying to use 88 flack alot in 1940 but the line was moving so fast they rarely made it to action. It should me noted the infantry lacked 8.8cm AT guns in 1940.

that was true in the desert, but it wasn't all gunfire

Also in the desert the British used alot of their cruiser tanks which were very fast, however they had rubbish guns and worse armour.

IIRC until the arrical of the churchill tank (still rubbish but better) and the US Grant tank teh Britsh ahd to rely on airpower and the Germans running out of petrol to have any chance in a tank v tank battle
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
