The Lomonosov Ridge is not technically part of any continent's continental shelf. It looks like a sliver of continental crust that was spit off of Eurasia when the extension of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge near it formed

Geographer, aka "Super Spy".There will be about 20 scientists on board the Healy with the crew, including representatives from the University of New Hampshire, University of Texas, University of Alaska, the National Ice Center in Suitland, Md., Scripps Institution, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and State Department, he said.
The State Department says its official is a geographer and member of an extended continental shelf task force.
"While a significant technological achievement, the planting of the Russian flag on the seabed of the North Pole has no legal effect and did not prompt the participation of the State Department expert in the Healy cruise," said spokeswoman Nicole Thompson.Comment

Jamaica has now also entered the stage. The Jamaican government announced today it will be sending "two Canadian dudes" to act on their behalf and carry out the 2007 Haile Selassie Commemorative Arctic Expedition.
A spokesman for the government later said that Jamaica would strongly advise all other contestants to "just chill" and recognize the vital importance to the Jamaican steel drum musical scene of possible oil deposits in the wider Arctic area.
