Probably not, but I can't see us lifting a finger to stop them and I don't know that any of the other three mentioned could.

Whiney Russians lack the ability to back up their claims, so what do we care? Or maybe Canada should send a sub to plant their flag on Russia?

            Silly Russians.

The North Pole is clearly Danish by any of the following criteria,

            1) Intersecting midlines based on the relative Arctic shoreline lengths of Russia, the U.S., Canada, Greenland and Norway

            2) Greenland having the world's northernmost shoreline

            3) The Lomonosov Ridge crossing the Pole being a natural continuation of Greenlands continental shelf, as will be evidenced by geological survey data presented by Denmark before the UN Maritime Territorial Commision no later than the year 2014

You should plant underwater mines to keep the Russians from going there...

Actually, a reporter on the radio today told the listeners that "Russia has come to the North Pole. They have planted their flag underneath the Pole, and claims ownership." "The Pole" in Norwegian is spelled the same way as, and pronounced only slightly different, then "Poland". We had a good laugh when we heard that reportage!

What is the rationale for claiming it for any of those nations anyway? Is it just "Hey, it's closer to our country, so it's clearly ours?"

Well, maybe we get Eastern Prussia back that way

                      Heresson will love that too.

So what are they going to do if someone, Denmark for instance, puts an oil rig in an area they claim? I hardly think Russia would risk war with NATO over this.

Does the North Pole count as being in Europe?

Winston, what a silly map is that? It marks as Siberia the north of the European part of Russia (which borders Finland and Norway).
