Kuwaiti newspaper report says France received intelligence information according to which Mossad is planning to kidnap members of Shiite group participating in conference of Lebanese groups near Paris

France has recently warned Israel not to harm Hizbullah members participating in a convention of Lebanese groups being held near Paris these days.

The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Seyassah reported Saturday that the French government told Israel an attempt to harm any of the Hizbullah delegates would hinder relations between the countries.

According to the report, the warning was issued after French intelligence received information saying Mossad was planning to attack Hizbullah
and Amal (Lebanese Resistance Detachments) representatives at the conference.

Al-Seyassah said the information, received from both Israel and Jordan, said Mossad was planning to kidnap members of the Shiite group with the aim of using them as bargaining chips in future negotiations for the release of Israeli soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, who have been held captive by Hizbullah since July 2006.

More than 400 French officers are securing the venue, the report said.

I'm not sure about the reliability of the Al-Seyassa source.

But this sounds just like something the %@^$%^ french intelligence services will do.

While I'm sure the Franks wouldn't like to have an incident happen on their soil I shed no tear over Hizbullah getting a kick to the head.

but why the heck would they give safe haven to these guys?
france is just as bad as syria or iran.

not to mention, that if the french were really cool, they would help get the hezbullah guys, like the italians helped CIA on their soil.

How shocking! The French host a conference in their country trying to break a political impase in a country they have deep interests in, and they ask a third party no to interfere and create an incident. Damn French! how dare they warn other countries not to commit a crime on their soil!

Such a request rings hollow given their own past actions.

                So?

Most states have such dirty hands that anything "moral" they claim to say or do would 'ring hollow' if we were to start cataloguing their past crimes.

                  Of course.

I'm just saying that France can say what they like, but it doesn't mean anyone is going to pay attention unless it suits them.

It's whether the French actively do something, rather than just talk, that remains to be seen.

Given how much friendlier towards Israel the current French government is compared to the last, the "gains" from such an action would be far less than the diplomatic damage.

The French never cared about anyone other than themselves and their self-perceived grandeur. They've never done a single thing or participated in any effort that was not intended primarily to elevate their own status as a nation.

I guess they must somehow be in dire need of constant validation.

I seriously hate to defend the French, but most countries would take some offense to another country conducting such operations inside their territory unless they themselves were apart of the operation. Anyway, I think any such operation would be counterproductive for Isreal.

Uhm, be it delusions of grandeur or whatever, but you can bet your arse on it that the French don't shy away. The humiliation of WW2 only makes them more determined.
